A little slice of UK climbing history in the home of Australian rock climbing

Once upon a long time ago, Jon was to be found every weekend on the crags of the English Lake District. If you wander off the beaten tourist track a little in this most beautiful corner of England you’ll often see photos hanging on an old pub wall, taken by these two legendary Cumbrian pioneers. Most of their work was done between 1890 and 1920 and forms a valuable record of the evolution of early rock-climbing in the English Lake District. It’s some of the earliest records in the world of man’s compulsion to go climb a rock.
